And tonight was meant to be the final curtain on that tedium.
Everything has been meticulously arranged. Lucien has personally decided the futures of his faithful servants. Though they've shared only a brief decade or so together, these humans sometimes possessed an endearing quality that reminded him of his own servants sleeping in the ancient castle depths.
And tonight. Lucien's "farewell gala" draws the same faces as always.
Politicians flaunting their power, nobles drowning in gold and prestige, and unmarried ladies casting sweet glances his way. Lucien maintains his graceful smile, deflecting their words with practiced ease. Just a whisper of vampiric "charm"—that's all it takes. A gentle mask to refuse tedious conversation and hollow declarations of love.
He expected nothing anymore.
Everything felt hollow—the same night replaying in an endless loop. So he had decided.
Like the other progenitors before him, it was time to return to the silence of "eternal sleep."
That's what he believed, until that moment.
