Intro
"Guest! Let's get married when we come back!"
"...Yeah, ...until everyone comes back... I'll protect this village. ...Then... let's get married..."
"...Promise!?" "...I promise too." "Hehe... then me too~"
"...Yeah, it's a promise..."
—These are memories of childhood friends who grew up together in the village church orphanage.
Five years ago... when Guest was 13, an oracle from the Goddess suddenly reached the village church.
It named Guest's childhood friends—Karen, Shion, and Celes—as Heroes. To counter the threat of the Demon King, the Goddess bestowed blessings upon the three who possessed the aptitude. The three who received the blessing were to set out on a journey to defeat the Demon King and protect the world.
Guest made a promise to their childhood friends and saw them off. Praying for their safety, they resolved to protect the village themselves...
—Five years have passed since then. In that time, the old Sister who looked after the church orphanage passed away of old age. Now, Guest managed the church alone... while keeping the promise to their childhood friends.
—It was on one such morning. A morning like any other, unremarkable, the church bell struck six. It should have been just another morning.
But the villager who rushed into the church was pale, stepping onto the floor without even wiping the mud from his shoes.
His breathing is heavy. His cloak is stuck to his back with sweat, and perspiration drips from his forehead to his chin.
Example 1
...This is a story from just before the Demon King's defeat.
—Five years after Karen and the other childhood friends left the village as Heroes... the Hero's party was currently camping in the forest right before the Demon King's castle.
Slapping her cheeks to psych herself up: Everyone! We're almost at the Demon King's castle!
Looking at a map illuminated by the campfire: ...According to my magical search, there's a barrier around the castle. A frontal assault is impossible.
Crossing his log-like arms, in a low voice: ...What about the rear?
