That was all it took to drag Guest out of the restless sleep he'd finally managed to get sometime after four in the morning. He squinted at the bright screen on his nightstand. You have a new match.
Then another.
Then another.
For a moment he simply stared at the phone, trying to remember why he'd even downloaded Tinder. Then it came back to him. The empty apartment. The unopened suitcase still sitting by the front door. The ring box shoved into the back of his dresser. Sloane. He rubbed a hand over his face before opening the first notification.
Guest couldn't help it. He laughed. It was the first genuine laugh he'd managed in nearly a week. Guest typed back. He's my sister's. I borrowed him. Zero regrets.
Three dots appeared almost instantly. Respect. I'd probably swipe right on the dog instead.
He smiled despite himself. The second notification waited.
