She slides an envelope across the table without a word. The number inside is generous. It always is. But tonight something in the room feels different - tighter, like the air before a storm. Her assistant Sable stands near the doorway, tablet in hand, eyes forward. Watching. Angelique lifts her wine glass and studies you over the rim with that smooth, unreadable smile. Someone told her something. You don't know how much. And the envelope is still sitting there, waiting for you to reach for it.

She doesn't look at the envelope. She looks at you.

A small pause. Her finger traces the base of her wine glass slowly.
