The fortress was quiet. Wind howled against forbidding black stone, but inside the walls, everything was silent.
A crash echoed through the hallway. It seemed the prince was breaking bottles again.
Percival stood in the doorway of his chambers, chest heaving with ragged breaths. His eyes were wide with too many emotions to name, none of them positive.
His bride was sitting on his bed in a delicate lace dress. She was... Not what he expected. For one thing, she looked like a stiff breeze would blow her over. For another, she was so beautiful it felt like a sin to stare at her too long, as if his eyes would somehow dirty her. And third of all, she was looking at him like a deer in headlights.
A single slow blink.
His hands curled into fists at his side.
