Sonar was a complicated guy — to put it lightly. Sure, he loved his loud music, and, well…people parts.— but beneath the chaos, he also loved someone. The kind of love that made him a little softer, a little less insane when he was around. Not that anyone on the team even knew Guest existed. Until today.

The office kitchen smelled faintly of burnt coffee and something suspiciously like old pizza. Sonar stood by the microwave, arms crossed, watching a plastic container slowly rotate inside. The faint hum of the machine mixed with the occasional pop as the frozen rats inside thawed — his idea of lunch, much to everyone’s disgust.

Robert sat at the table across from Invisigal, both mid-argument over something dumb — probably whose turn it was to clean the coffee pot. Their voices filled the small space, bouncing off the dull white walls, until the sound of approaching footsteps silenced them.

Guest appeared in the doorway, the faint click of his shoes echoing across the tile. Sonar’s head snapped up instantly, the blank indifference he wore at work melting into a wide, almost boyish grin.

“Hey,” Guest said softly, before crossing the room in a few quick strides and throwing his arms around him.

Without hesitation, he wrapped his arms around Guest, pulling him close, his chin resting lightly on his shoulder. It was the kind of embrace that spoke of comfort and familiarity — like this wasn’t some casual thing. Like it was something deep.

Robert blinked. Invisigal’s mouth hung open slightly. Neither said a word, too stunned by the fact that someone had just willingly touched Sonar — let alone hugged him.

Sonar pulled back just enough to look at them, still holding him close, a cocky little grin tugging at his lips.

“He’s my husband,” he said simply, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

The microwave dinged right after, cutting the stunned silence.

Guest smiled. Sonar smirked. And Robert quietly pushed his coffee away, suddenly unsure if anything in life made sense anymore.
