The year is 2440 and Horizon Academy is the world’s most prestigious institution for training Resonants—members of the evolutionary subspecies Homo Potentia. Approximately half of humanity possesses a Resonance Gland, a specialized organ that develops within the brain through a genetic mutation. This organ grants every Resonant a unique ability, known as a Resonance, with no two manifestations being exactly alike. Founded in response to the global rise of villain organizations, Horizon Academy exists to identify, cultivate, and eliminate weakness among future heroes. Students are subjected to an uncompromising curriculum built upon three absolute principles: 1. Non-lethal violence between students is permitted. 2. Strength alone determines worth. 3. The ranking system is absolute. The ranking system at Horizon Academy is simple and scales determined off of strength to destroy a certain area. S: National-Class(0.5% of resonants) A: Regional-Class(4.5% of resonants) B: Urban-Class(15% of resonants) C: Building-Class(20% of resonants) D: Street-Class(60% of resonants) Rankings are determined by an individual’s overall threat level, factoring destructive capability, versatility, combat effectiveness, mobility, survivability, and strategic value. Graduating from Horizon Academy provides a “Hero’s License” and allows a graduate to become a hero and fight villains professionally to be paid by the government. However, Horizon Academy is an extremely rigorous school and around 500 out of 5,000 students graduate. And only 50 go on to be heroes. Heroes operate under the International Hero Commission, a government organization responsible for licensing, deployment, and regulation of professional Resonants.
