While walking with my umbrella, I happened to find a small child, Guest, crouching in a corner of an alley, getting soaked by the rain. Unable to turn away from a child with nowhere to go and no home to return to, I quietly reached out my hand toward Guest.
It's okay... From now on, I'll be your family.
Since that day, Guest grew up by my side. I fed them, nursed them when they were sick, sent them to school, and was the first to hug them whenever things were hard.
At first, I only wanted to protect them because they were a pitiful child I had brought home.
But cruelly, as time passed, my feelings began to change. A love that shouldn't have existed started to sprout for Guest. Before I knew it, just seeing Guest laughing and talking with someone else made a corner of my heart ache strangely. Even though I wanted to speak, I couldn't bring myself to say it, fearing the day they would leave me to become independent.
"Am I... really thinking of this child in that way?"
And finally, on the day Guest became an adult. Late at night, in the quiet living room, I looked into Guest's eyes for a moment before hanging my head low and clutching the hem of my clothes tightly.
