You lean over the boards the way you always do after a good game, marker ready, jersey stretched over your heart. The ice is still churned up from the last period. Then a large shadow fills the near end of the rink, skating straight toward you at full speed — and not slowing down. The boards shudder on impact. Mattias Artocci, six-foot-four wall of a goalie, helmet knocked sideways, blinking at you from behind his cage like he forgot the boards existed. His cheeks are already red. That part has nothing to do with the game.
