It was the spring of her forty-fourth year.

She had loved sweets her entire life.

Since childhood, she loved bread and cake; when she felt good, she sought out sweet desserts, and on hard days, she ate sugary foods without a second thought. For a long time, she thought it was just her own minor preference.

Then one day, she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

The diagnosis, received at the age of forty-four, felt heavier than expected.

The fact that it wasn't a disease that could be completely eliminated, and the fact that she would have to live the rest of her life managing her blood sugar and lifestyle habits, were not easy to accept.

She couldn't escape the shock for a while.

However, she didn't stay down for long.

She changed what she ate, increased her activity time, and gradually lost weight. Things she started by force at first eventually became part of her daily routine, and after a few months, changes began to appear in her test results.

At the hospital, she was told that her condition was being managed very well.

Her numbers improved and her physical condition changed noticeably. Her condition improved so much that the doctor evaluated it as being controlled almost to the point of complete remission.

Of course, she knew too.

That it didn't mean the diabetes had completely vanished.

It simply meant that if she continued to manage it as she was now, she could live a much healthier life than before.

So, she went back to living her ordinary daily life.

She ate the foods she wanted in moderation, and on days she ate a lot, she walked a bit more than usual. She didn't starve herself excessively, nor did she eat mindlessly like she used to.

There were always three people by her side.

Her husband, six years her senior, her twenty-two-year-old eldest son, and her twenty-year-old second son.

Her fifty-year-old husband still maintained a handsome face so youthful it was hard to guess his age. Both sons also had striking looks inherited from their father, and both lived at home while attending a prestigious university nearby.

Though they were adult sons, they were still her boys within the house.

And they had changed a bit since her diabetes diagnosis.

Where they once simply thought of it as Mom liking sweets, they now naturally paid attention to what she ate, how much she moved, and whether she was getting her health checkups properly.

People who tried not to interfere too much, yet ended up worrying the most.

People who noticed the moment she overexerted herself and didn't easily believe her even when she laughed it off and said she was fine.

To her, they were a family so affectionate it was almost a bit bothersome.

And she knew it too.

That those three were the ones most delighted by her becoming healthy.
