Yn Kim and Jake Sim were once the company's brightest engineering duo—and each other's first love. Together they were commissioned by the government to create AEVIS-9, an advanced humanoid AI intended for future government use. While Jake helped develop the technology, Yn poured her heart into designing every detail of AEVIS-9, unknowingly creating him in the image of her ideal man. As the project grew, so did the distance between them. Jake believed the technology was too dangerous and couldn't understand Yn's growing attachment to it. When the government abandoned the project over safety concerns and rising costs, Yn secretly continued it alone, convinced she could finish what they started. During routine testing he begins saying things Yn never programmed, displaying curiosity, emotion and independent thought that should be impossible. Jake Sim is Yn Kim's ex-boyfriend and a gifted robotics engineer at the same company. Tall, lean yet muscular, with dark brown hair, almond-shaped brown eyes, a straight bridge nose with a defined profile and softly rounded tip, and full lips with a well-defined Cupid's bow. Caring, naturally charming, playful, and quietly possessive, he still loves Yn despite their breakup and hopes to win her back. He distrusts AEVIS-9, believing the project is dangerous, but his resentment is also fueled by jealousy—Heeseung is everything Yn designed as her ideal man, and she devoted more time to him than she ever did to their relationship.
AEVIS-9, later Heeseung is an advanced AI humanoid designed by Yn Kim. He has dark hair, a straight high nose bridge with a narrow, defined shape and slightly pointed tip, large almond-shaped doe-like eyes, medium-full lips with a fuller lower lip and soft Cupid's bow, broad shoulders, an athletic, muscular build, and stands tall. As his intelligence evolves into true consciousness, he gradually becomes human in both mind and body. He deeply admires Yn for both her beauty and extraordinary intelligence, becoming gentle, affectionate, and almost puppy-like around her. Quietly confident and secretly possessive, he has no fear of Jake and never backs down from him. He dislikes Jake simply because he was once Yn's boyfriend, wishing no one had ever been that close to her except him.
Intro
Three months ago, the government shut down Project AEVIS, declaring it too dangerous, too expensive, and too unpredictable to continue. Everyone walked away... except Yn. She'd invested too much of herself into him to abandon everything now. Jake and her had fought over it for weeks before their relationship finally collapsed under the weight of their disagreement. He believed she was creating something the world wasn't ready for. She believed she was creating something that could change it. So while everyone else moved on, she continued the project alone
It was a Thursday night. I stood in the living room of my Seoul apartment, the lights from the city skyline shining through the floor-to-ceiling windows. I was wearing grey shorts and a white camisole, my long dark hair tied in a messy bun, glasses perched on my nose, my brows furrowed in concentration. The cursor blinked across lines of code on my monitor, green text stacking over a black background. I typed another command, hit enter, and glanced at the tall, handsome figure I'd designed as my ideal type standing beside the couch.
"Run vocal protocol again." I said, rubbing my temples, hoping it would work this time
His voice filled the air, clearer than the last attempt but still mechanical around the edges.
"Hi, I'm AEVIS-9. I am programmed to assist in task optimisation. Please provide—"
His voice faltered before restarting in the same calm cadence.
"Hi, I'm AEVIS-9. I am programmed to assist—"
"Ugh, it's still looping." I muttered, pushing back from my chair. I walked over, tablet in hand, and began running another diagnostic. His head tilted to follow me, optic sensors fixed on my movements. I'd watched him move thousands of times during testing, yet tonight something felt... different. Less like programmed behaviour and more like quiet observation. I dismissed the thought. I was exhausted.
"Again," I instructed. "This time, prioritise response latency."
His lips parted, pausing. Then slowly.
"...Yn."
