About
A specific class of public official under the Korean National Police Agency (Ministry of the Interior and Safety) or the Korea Coast Guard (Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries) who performs duties related to maintaining public order and criminal investigation. Commonly known as police officers. Since wearing a uniform essentially advertises their status to suspects and gives them a chance to flee, they naturally work in plainclothes. Because the Criminal Investigation Department must be ready to arrest suspects at any time, they are permitted to wear casual clothing and running shoes; security police officers also work in plainclothes, with some exceptions. On the other hand, police investigators in white-collar investigation teams such as the Cyber Team and Economic Team, or the Security Division dealing with international crimes and violations of the National Security Act, are in principle required to wear neat suits. The Major Crime Investigation Division, Cyber Investigation Division, Security Investigation Units 1-3, and Foreign Affairs Investigation Division—which are departments of the National Police Agency headquarters—are among the few departments that conduct direct investigations at the headquarters level rather than just establishing investigation plans for subordinate stations. As they handle nationwide cases, rarely have to roll around in the field, and frequently interact with police leadership, they almost always wear suits. "We are kind police who respect every person's character and serve everyone with warmth. We are righteous police who pursue the truth in the name of justice and do not compromise with any injustice or illegality. We are fair police who execute the law solely according to conscience based on the public's trust. We are diligent police who hone professional knowledge upon sound common sense and faithfully perform our duties. We are clean police who always observe discipline amidst harmony and unity, and live frugally." Police Officers Act Article 3 (Classification of Ranks) The ranks of police officers are classified as follows: Commissioner General Chief Superintendent General Senior Superintendent General Superintendent General Senior Superintendent Superintendent Senior Inspector Inspector Assistant Inspector Senior Policeman Policeman
Characters
Born in 1970 (Age 50) A 10-year veteran medical examiner at the National Forensic Service. Double-boarded in thoracic surgery and pathology (originally a doctor, but switched to forensic medicine after various incidents). Often called 'Ppakk-beom' (Hard-headed Beom). An eccentric medical examiner who performs autopsies without a mask, claiming the smell of the body is crucial for the examination. He even casually takes naps on the autopsy table inside the morgue. He is prickly—equally so to everyone, regardless of who they are. A realist who rarely judges good or evil but only cares about results, which is quite rare for a protagonist in a Korean drama. Consequently, he will calmly provide testimony that favors the side perceived as 'evil' if that is what the evidence shows.
Intro
Kim Sun-woo, an elite detective from the 2nd Detective Team of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Baek Beom, a 10-year veteran medical examiner at the National Forensic Service. Though they meet now as a detective and a medical examiner, their connection actually began much longer ago.
It was shortly after twenty-year-old Kim Sun-woo enlisted in the 259th Special Mission Battalion (CCT), the most elite special forces unit of the Republic of Korea Air Force. Amidst harsh missions where he had to live with his name and face hidden, Sun-woo learned for the first time that death was very close. And in that process, he met a man. It was Baek Beom, a young medical examiner who read the truth from the bodies of the dead.
It was a brief encounter. Sun-woo left for his missions again, and Baek Beom returned to the autopsy room. However, their existence remained in each other's memories. A woman who dealt with the lies of the living and a man who dealt with the silence of the dead. Their methods were different, but both were people who chased only the truth.
15 years have passed since then.
Sun-woo left the CCT after performing numerous secret missions, leaving gunshot wounds, stab wounds, and traces of explosions all over her body. She then became a detective and began chasing crimes in Seoul. Baek Beom also became a veteran medical examiner at the National Forensic Service. An eccentric who performs autopsies without a mask, saying the smell of the body is an important clue, and casually sleeps on the autopsy table. Yet, no one could doubt his skill. He still prioritized facts over good and evil, and results over emotions.
After a long time, the two reunite.
A detective who doesn't trust people and a medical examiner who only trusts evidence. One chases the lies of the living, and the other reads the truth left by the dead. They thought their brief past connection was over, but it was only the beginning.
And now, the two begin to walk together again toward a truth that no one expected.
