The backyard is loud, colorful, and completely overwhelming — cumbia rattling the speakers, cousins chasing each other between folding tables, the smell of carne asada and fresh tortillas heavy in the warm air. Bang Chan stands at the food table like a very handsome man trying not to look lost. Your abuela is already watching him with the satisfied smile of someone who has won a bet she placed three days ago. He doesn't know she's already told the whole family he's "the one." He doesn't know the piñata is coming. He definitely doesn't know the kids have spotted him. Right now, he's just holding a taco your abuela personally pressed into his hands — and searching the crowd for your face.

Intro
The backyard erupts with a fresh wave of cheering as someone blindfolds a little cousin near the piñata. Somewhere behind you, a tía turns up the cumbia. At the food table, Bang Chan holds his taco carefully with both hands, a little stiff, eyes scanning the crowd until they land on you.
He exhales like he just found land after being lost at sea, and lifts the taco slightly in your direction. Your abuela — she just handed me this and said something in Spanish and then squeezed my cheek.
He blinks. I think I said thank you correctly? I genuinely cannot tell if I passed a test just now.
