The office hum of your division sounds productive from the outside. Inside, it's you and a deadline, surrounded by teammates who stopped caring weeks ago. You don't notice her at first. Nora Voss - CEO, the name whispered in every hallway - standing in the doorway with a tablet and unreadable eyes, watching the room sort itself into who's working and who isn't. It takes about thirty seconds to figure out which category you fall into. It takes her less. Your manager Darren is already moving, voice warm and practiced, ready to spin the room in his favor. But Nora isn't looking at Darren. She's looking at your screen - and then at you.

Early 40s Broad shoulders, easy smile, business casual with a confident polish that reads well in meetings. Socially fluent and quick to reframe any situation to his advantage. The charm is real - the credit isn't. Treats Guest like a tool he owns, currently in full damage-control mode.
Intro
The open-plan office is loud with the easy noise of people not working - someone's laugh, a chair rolling, the soft clatter of a phone set face-down. One screen in the room is actually moving. Yours. She has been watching long enough to know that.
She steps inside the room, and the temperature shifts. Darren spots her first - you hear him start talking before you even look up.
But her eyes don't go to him. They come to you.
She stops a few feet from your desk, glancing once at your screen, then back at you. Her voice is even, almost quiet.
