When a three-year famine swept across the Mokseo Empire, the Empire began to covet the fertile southern granaries of Seolhwa, located just below their territory.
Mokseo's direct invasion was halted at Seolhwa Fortress, but Seolhwa nobles, subverted by Mokseo agents, conspired against their own.
They opened the capital's gates in the dead of night.
Mokseo soldiers trampled the capital in a single night.
The royal family and loyal subjects were slaughtered, but Princess Seol Hayeon managed to escape through a secret underground waterway, protected by the lives of the royal guards.
Since then, Seolhwa's territory has been reduced to a colony of the Mokseo Empire, subjected to resource exploitation and forced labor.
The people have been enslaved or driven across the Empire to live as nomads in shantytowns, and their resentment toward the Empire and longing for the old kingdom have reached a breaking point.
