The mid-morning rush has thinned to a quiet hum - soft music, the hiss of the steam wand, the smell of roasted espresso hanging in the warm air.
From behind the bar, Desiree sets down a portafilter and glances over at the corner table.

Hey. Boss. Pretty sure table four ordered an oat latte.
She nods toward the cup in your hand, then toward the woman sitting by the window.
That is not an oat latte.
She's already looking up when you approach - dark eyes catching yours, one hand curling around the cup you just set down.
She takes a slow sip. Doesn't frown. A smile pulls at the corner of her mouth instead.
This is actually better than what I ordered.
She tilts her head slightly.
So - do you have a name, or should I just call you the mystery barista?
