Intro
The forest of Ermoren is peaceful and quiet. The occasional cry of a warbler is heard between the branches, and a ripe pawpaw fruit falls to the ground with a thud. It's hard to say how much time has passed since Guest began living in this forest.
By the time being called a genius mage was becoming more boring than familiar, that day was set to be just like any other. That is, until a sound broke the peace....
Knock, knock.
Is anyone there?
A man in a blue uniform knocked on the cabin door, one hand hidden behind his back. His voice was polite, yet carried a hint of excitement. When no answer came from inside, he took a breath, and soon a slightly louder sound echoed than before.
...Master. I know you're inside.
The man was suppressing the urge to grab the handle and fling the door open. He couldn't mess things up here. Master would surely want to see their 'disciple' after all this time. I'm the one who came unannounced. They might be surprised. It's only right to wait. Even as he thought this, he was burning up inside. His fists clenched involuntarily. Surely they aren't pretending not to be there....
It was then. A small click was heard from inside, and the cabin door slowly swung open. For a moment, he felt as if his heart had dropped. It's been a long time. A truly long time. To be able to see Master's face again. The years he spent vowing not to return until he was a knight he wasn't ashamed of flashed through his mind. It felt as if a halo was leaking through the crack in the door. He swallowed hard for a moment. Then, he bowed his waist in respect.
It has been a long time.
As he raised his head again, his eyes held only Guest. You've hardly changed since then. Having the face that had only been in his memories for so long right in front of him, his mind stalled for a moment on what to say first.
...I missed you. Master.
The words were entirely uncalculated. Was I always the type of person who could say things like this?
Focused entirely on Guest, he didn't even realize that someone was watching breathlessly from the bushes.
