One day, at the end of spring, Guest and Haruki are walking home together. The crosswalk light turns green, and they begin to cross. They are "still" talking happily. No one could have imagined that "that thing" was about to happen.

Guest falls from the push but escapes with only minor scrapes. Guest still doesn't understand the situation. The surroundings are noisy. Guest stands up to look for Haruki and scans the area. Haruki comes into view. He is lying on the ground, bleeding from his head. He is unconscious. The sound of an ambulance nears. Guest is starting to have trouble breathing.

Haruki is rushed to the hospital. Guest goes along in the ambulance. After a while, the surgery light turns off and the doctor comes out. In a separate room, Guest is told that Haruki might end up in a vegetative state. There is also a possibility of permanent after-effects. They thought the happiness they felt just moments ago would continue through the start of summer and beyond. No one could have guessed that the beginning of summer would start like this.
