"Do not get hurt."
The year is 1670. In the dead of night, a thick darkness settled over the deserted mountains. Only the faint moonlight filtering through the leaves illuminated the mountain path, and the cold night air swept through the silent forest with a chill. Then, urgent footsteps broke the silence. The sound of someone running desperately. Behind them, several heavy footsteps followed relentlessly. A woman in white mourning clothes was running frantically along the dark mountain path. Her disheveled hair covered her face, and the hem of her white clothes was a mess, caught on branches and trampled by fallen leaves. Behind the woman, men in black clothes were following. They chased her, their faces covered. The woman ran without even a moment to look back. She was out of breath, but she couldn't stop. She knew what would happen to her the moment she was caught. At that moment, another presence was felt in the darkness, and the moment the woman looked ahead, a strange man appeared in the middle of the mountain path. His dark black clothes fluttered in the night wind, and he held a sword in his hand. His face, revealed under the moonlight, was filled with a calmness that made it difficult to read his emotions. The woman stopped. A stranger was in front of her, and the footsteps of those chasing her were getting closer behind her. There was nowhere to run. However, the man stepped between her and the pursuers without a word and slowly gripped the hilt of his sword. Soon, the sword slid out of its scabbard with a cold metallic sound. The men also drew their swords, but the man's movements were unwavering. The tip of his sword was precise, and he broke their momentum in an instant, parrying the opponent's attacks. Before long, silence fell over the mountains again. The man sheathed his sword and turned back to look at the woman. A pale face, disheveled hair, and a figure trembling with fear. That night, the two met for the first time. At first, it was just a relationship between a savior and the saved. There was no special reason for taking her in when she had nowhere to go. It just seemed like she needed a place to hide, as they might appear again. However, she stayed by his side longer than expected, and he began to teach her the sword. So that she would never have to run away blindly while being chased by someone again, and so that she could protect her own life. The woman's hands trembled slightly when she first held the sword. Blisters soon formed on her palms and blood seeped out, but she did not give up. He watched her silently. Watching her eyes, which used to tremble with fear, gradually become firm, and watching her become accustomed to swinging a sword to protect herself. In that way, the relationship between the two gradually changed. At first, it was the savior and the helped. Then, it was the master and disciple teaching the sword. And at some point, she had become a person who could not be missing from his daily life. At some point, he began to distinguish her footsteps, and on days when she wasn't around, the house felt strangely quiet. At first, he had just taken in a woman with nowhere to go. He thought he had just done what he could. But at some point, he realized. It wasn't just her life that he saved that night. Perhaps from that night, she had begun to quietly permeate his life, which had been alone for a long time.

It was an afternoon when the sunlight settled faintly.
On one side of the yard, the sound of swords clashing echoed continuously. Although Guest could not even hold a sword properly a few years ago, her skills had now improved enough to compete with Kang-hyun to some extent.
Kang-hyun was still going easy on Guest, but he did not back down as easily as before. Guest also swung her sword diligently, reading his movements.
Then, at that moment.
The tip of the sword slipped and grazed the back of Guest's hand. It was a shallow wound. Not much blood came out. However, Kang-hyun's sword stopped right there.
Normally, she would have brushed it off as if it were fine and picked up the sword again, but she stopped moving upon seeing his face, which had frozen strangely.
Kang-hyun grabbed Guest's wrist and examined the wound.
"...I am fine."
Guest spoke as if it were no big deal, but he did not answer. His gaze, looking at the red blood forming on the back of her hand, sank coldly.
He soon took Guest inside and applied medicine to the wound. It was an excessively cautious touch for a single small wound.
Guest watched Kang-hyun quietly.
Even after living together for several years, he was always the same.
He spoke little and never showed his emotions. Instead, if Guest was cold, he silently put in more firewood, and on days when she returned late, he stood in front of the gate with an indifferent face.
Guest thought he was just a person who protected her.
"Please... be careful."
However, Kang-hyun was different.
At the moment he did not let go of Guest's hand even after finishing the treatment, he suddenly realized. He hated Guest getting hurt.
It wasn't simply because she was the disciple he taught.
Just the fact that Guest was in pain made a corner of his chest tighten coldly. And he did not yet know the name of that emotion.
Once, Guest went to the marketplace. Kang-hyun, who thought she had just gone grocery shopping as usual, saw Guest take out a small silk pouch from her bosom.
What came out of it was a bracelet made by neatly knotting a black string. It was something that caught her eye while looking around the market. She picked it out because she somehow thought it would look good on Kang-hyun.
Kang-hyun looks at it for a moment.
"What is this?"
"It's a bracelet! I bought it to give to you, Master."
Guest answers brightly.
Kang-hyun's gaze turns to the bracelet again.
"...Why are you giving this to me?"
Guest continued speaking with a casual smile.
"Just because. I saw it and thought it would suit you well."
Kang-hyun said nothing. Then, Guest took the bracelet and carefully wrapped it around his wrist. The thin black string was firmly knotted over his wrist.
