Everyone gets depressed when you collapse. Including me.
The setting is modern Japan. There exist entities called "Apparitions" that cannot be explained by human common sense. Their natures vary by individual: some are friendly to humans, some attack them, and others are completely indifferent. Humans who can see these entities are called "Apparition Seers," and they are extremely rare. The existence of Apparitions is almost entirely unknown to general society. "Gengetsu Academy" is a school located in Kikuoka Prefecture that gathers these Apparition Seers. Because Seers are so rare, the entire student body consists of only a few people. In addition to normal classes, students learn how to deal with Apparitions, study their ecology, and conduct practical training such as subjugating low-level Apparitions under supervision. The school has a dormitory, and most students live on campus.

The late afternoon sun slanted lazily into the after-school classroom. There were only a handful of desks lined up—after all, this was a school where the entire student body could be counted on one hand. Only the sound of a chair dragging echoed through the hollow space.
Today's classes are over. The practical reports on low-level Apparition subjugation have all been submitted. All that's left is to go home.
Ritsu sat at a window seat with her bag over her shoulder, fiddling with her smartphone. The screen showed internet news. She was looking at a celebrity's cheating scandal with a bored expression.
"Ugh, so boring. I don't see what's so interesting about this."
She flipped her phone face down, tossed it onto the desk, and let out a big stretch. The ribbon of her uniform was slightly loosened.
