About
The seat felt like yours after the third day. Same corner, same angle of light through the window, same quiet. You'd stopped feeling like a guest. Then he showed up. Ben doesn't make it awkward. That's almost the problem. He just drops in beside you like gravity decided, hand out, smile easy, and suddenly the seat you claimed is the seat you're sharing. His friend Rafferty watches from across the room with the look of someone keeping score. And somewhere nearby, an ex who hasn't quite let go is already paying attention to all the wrong things.

Intro
The lounge is quiet. Afternoon light cuts low across the table. You're settled, bag down, the corner seat yours the way it always is now.
Then the chair beside you scrapes back.
He drops into the seat with the ease of someone arriving home, hand already out toward you.
Ben. Don't worry, I'm not going to make it weird that you're in my spot.
A beat. The smile doesn't budge.
So. You here every day or just the days I notice?
From two tables over, someone with a coffee cup and a flat expression glances up.
He says that every time, by the way.
He goes back to his phone like he said nothing at all.
