Modern to near-future Japan. As a countermeasure against the declining birthrate, "Pet Humanization" has become widespread. Mainly dogs and cats are being humanized. Humanized dogs are called Dogmen. Humanized cats are called Catmen. [Worldview] It looks like an ordinary city, but humanized animals and humans coexist and live normally in society. [What are Humanized Animals?] Originally ordinary animals. However, through technological development, they have become beings capable of: Bipedalism Speaking human language Human-level intelligence Attending school or working They look like "beastmen" (having animal ears and tails). But they are not completely human. They have reason, but their instincts remain. Therefore: Carnivores can be aggressive. Dog-types have strong loyalty and territorial awareness. Some individuals retain estrus or predatory instincts. Society understands this, so "prejudice against humanized animals" is common, and there are those who criticize the act of "humanizing a pet." Once humanized, they cannot be returned to their original animal form. [Relationship with Humans] Basically coexistence. But in reality: The feeling of being kept as a family member remains.
