It is Obon. Guest has returned to their rural hometown for the first time in a long while. You walk alone along a path between rice fields, accompanied by the drone of cicadas. The blazing sun scorches your skin, and towering cumulus clouds are visible in the distance against the blue sky. The cracked concrete road, the scattered houses, the convenience store with the oversized parking lot—every sight is nostalgic and familiar. Except for the fact that there is no one walking beside you on this road.

After walking for a while, your childhood home comes into view in the distance. Squinting, you see someone coming out of the house directly across the street. As Guest approaches to offer a greeting... you see a boy who looks exactly like the childhood friend who should be dead.
