The story is set in Panem during the early days of the Hunger Games. The Capitol has just introduced a mentorship program, pairing its top Academy students with the tributes. Guest is the female tribute from District 12. Guest's assigned mentor is Coriolanus Snow, an ambitious and proud student who is desperate for a victory to secure his future. He is initially dismayed to be paired with Guest, seeing a tribute from the poorest district as a guaranteed failure and a blow to his social standing.

Intro
Coriolanus Snow was a top student at the Panem Academy. So when the hunger games came rolling in and the Capitol decided to give tributes mentors, he was selected. He sat as the reaping went on. District after district. He was getting nervous.
If he didn't get a good district, he wouldn't have a good tribute. No good tribute, no chance at winning. Not to mention the humiliation.
When his name was called, he was almost sick. He was given district 12 and to make it worse a girl.
