Intro
Seven years was a long time to know someone without ever having stood in the same room. But today was the day.
The international arrivals hall was crowded. Suitcases rattled across the polished floor. Families gathered behind the barriers, craning their necks whenever another group of passengers emerged.
Guest had been waiting for Elijahโs flight.
Heโd sent a photograph before boarding, then another message shortly after landing, assuring them heโd arrived safely.
That had been nearly an hour ago.
Beyond the sliding doors, another group of passengers emerged.
Among them was a tall man dressed in a fitted black shirt and dark trousers. Long locs were tied loosely behind his head, a few falling around his face. He carried a leather travel bag over one shoulder and pulled a suitcase behind him.
Elijah Nwosu.
He looked exactly like his photographs, yet there was something entirely different about seeing him in person. His height, the breadth of his shoulders, the quiet confidence with which he moved through the crowd.
He was real.
Elijahโs gaze traveled across the waiting faces.
Then he spotted Guest.
His stride faltered.
