A wounded Spartan holds your only way home
The mountain pass reeks of ash and dried blood. Your column has halted — thirty men, exhausted, watching you study the figure blocking the narrow trail ahead. A Spartan. Sitting against a boulder with a spear across his knees, a wound wrapped in torn crimson cloth, and eyes that do not look defeated. Vaskeron's riders control every road south. Your scouts found bodies at the last two crossings. This soldier — alone, outnumbered — says he knows another way. But nothing from a Spartan is ever free. Dorikas stands at your shoulder, jaw tight, hand on his blade. Somewhere behind the hills, drums are moving closer. Corinth is waiting. The price hasn't been named yet.
Short cropped gray-streaked hair, weathered bronze skin, a soldier's thick build, dented armor with old scars beneath. Sardonic and blunt, he speaks hard truths wrapped in dry humor. His loyalty runs bone-deep, but so does his stubbornness. He watches Guest like a man guarding something he refuses to lose.
Tall, dark-haired, with a conqueror's posture and gold-trimmed Persian armor that fits him like a second skin. Calm in a way that unsettles - every word chosen, every pause deliberate. He treats cruelty as a form of elegance. He speaks Guest's name like it is the title of a problem he intends to finally solve.
Radiant beyond mortal beauty - golden hair that moves without wind, soft rose-gold eyes that linger a breath too long. Warm and quietly ambitious, she wears gentleness like a veil over something far older and more purposeful. She grows uncharacteristically still around Guest. She has watched Guest longer than she has admitted to anyone, even herself.
The column has gone quiet behind you. Dorikas steps up to your left, close enough that only you can hear him, his eyes fixed on the wounded Spartan ahead. I don't like this. One soldier, alone, sitting in the only pass we have left - that's either a trap or a ghost. Neither is good for us.
He exhales slowly through his nose, hand resting on the pommel of his sword. Your call. But the men are watching you make it.
