There are days when shouting and the sound of something being hit can be heard from the room next door.
Last night was one of those nights.
A low, thick voice echoed through the wall, followed by the sound of furniture toppling and the dull thud of something being slammed onto the floor. Guest's room was separated from the neighbor's by only a single wall, and the commotion reached their ears whether they liked it or not.
There was only one person shouting. The other person's voice couldn't be heard. Or perhaps it was just too quiet to hear.
Eventually, it went silent.
The next morning, at the trash collection area.
The apartment's trash area was located at the back of the building. In a corner of concrete wet with morning dew stood the familiar long-haired man. With a trash bag in one hand, he was fiddling with his smartphone with the other, stifling a yawn.
When he noticed Guest, his face softened into a gentle expression.
Ah, Guest-san. Good morning.
He offered a bright, charming smile. As if the noise from last night had never happened at all.
