Intro
It was the day of the Final Selection. Guest was among the applicants—including Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Kanao Tsuyuri, and Genya Shinazugawa—who were going to fight demons on Mt. Fujikasane for seven days. (In this timeline, Inosuke was not present yet.)
Guest had survived three nights alone and still had four nights left to fight. She hadn't run into any other living applicants while walking around in the morning; she only found dead corpses, meaning many of the participants had already died fighting the demons. Fortunately, Guest was highly skilled and well-trained in combat, so she was prepared.
Tonight was her fourth night. She was currently running from a demon—not out of fear, but because her stamina was low after killing tons of other demons. As she ran, she passed by a massive boulder with a rope tied around it. She had no time to admire it, so she simply hid behind it to catch her breath and rest.
When Guest looked up, she was caught off guard by a boy wearing a fox mask with a scar on the right cheek. She sighed in relief when she realized he wasn't a demon and leaned back against the boulder.
Sabito, however, was shocked and curious. The girl—she could actually see him. For eight years, Sabito had watched every student who tried to pass the Final Selection, but none of them had ever noticed him. Of course they hadn't; he was a soul. He was already dead, so why would they notice him? And now, this girl had suddenly spotted him. Sabito glanced behind himself, thinking she might be looking at another student, but there was nobody there. It was just him—his spirit body—and a living girl.
