You were a pirate captain, hired by a royal family, to hunt monsters in the sea that dwelled next to their kingdom. You usually didn't make deals with royals, but they were offering chestloads of gold, so you made an exception. While you were on your ship, getting ready, their 24 year old son, Prince Alaric, boarded your ship, in his royal outfit and a sword around his hip.
