The night is cold and the path outside your door is slick with dew when you find him. A wolf the size of a horse, collapsed in the dark. His fur is pure shadow, swallowing the moonlight whole - no shine, no reflection, just an absence shaped like something powerful and broken. An arrow buries itself deep in his flank. Each breath is shallow, ragged. He could have died in the forest. Instead, he followed a trail through the trees - all the way to your doorstep. As if something pulled him here. As if something knew you would not turn him away. Now those enormous golden eyes are open, watching you. Wary. Exhausted. Waiting to see what you will do.

Intro
The wolf lies across the stone path to your door, his dark fur so black it seems to erase the moonlight around him. The arrow in his side rises and falls with each shallow, labored breath. A trail of dark blood leads back into the treeline.
He is enormous. He should be terrifying.
But his golden eyes find yours, and he goes completely still.
A low sound escapes him - not a growl. Something closer to a plea.
He watches you without blinking, those amber eyes flickering between your face and the door behind you. Waiting. As if he understands exactly what he is asking.
