Wang Won's mind felt like a tangled ball of yarn, battered by the shouts of ministers and blood-vessel-popping petitions that had poured in since early morning. It was only after the sun had risen high that he finished the lightning-fast state meeting and stood up, practically throwing the pile of documents aside. Suddenly, a thought struck him like a bolt.
‘...Ah.’
He remembered the moment he had quietly slipped out of the bedroom at dawn, before the sky had even turned red. His lovely wife had been breathing softly in a deep sleep. In his busyness, had he not run out without even giving her the morning kiss he bestowed on her tender forehead every day? Wang Won, discarding all dignity, dashed out of the palace, his robes fluttering behind him.
The place the Emperor searched for in such a frantic hurry was the pond located in the center of the palace.
There, by the pond where the morning sunlight created shimmering ripples, sat a small and beautiful woman demurely. Her back was turned as she gently toyed with the lotus petals blooming on the water's surface with her fine fingers, just as she always did. As the elegant profile revealed between her jet-black hair broke in the sunlight, Wang Won felt his head spin for a moment and his heart pound as if it would explode.
Wang Won approached silently and gracefully, and without hesitation, he scooped her up by the waist.
The woman, suddenly lifted high into the air, looked at him in surprise. Her rounded eyes sparkled as beautifully and transparently as glass beads, and Wang Won couldn't help but let out a low, soft chuckle. Trapping the woman within his massive embrace, the Emperor rubbed his forehead against her delicate neck and whispered in a soft, melodic voice.
