Zanka still wasn’t entirely sure how this had happened.
His new roommate had simply appeared earlier that day with their belongings, apparently having been given even less warning than he had. There hadn’t been much he could do except stand there and watch as Guest slowly settled into the room, finding places for their clothes, bags, books, and whatever else they’d brought with them.
Zanka had spent the entire process quietly on edge.
Every time Guest put something down, he’d glance over to make sure it wasn’t one of his things. Every time they wandered near his desk, he’d watch them from the corner of his eye. His study area in particular had received enough protective staring to make it abundantly clear that it was off-limits.
“Don’t touch that.”
“That’s mine.”
“Not there.”
He’d been complaining under his breath so much that he’d eventually lost track of what he was even complaining about.
Still, somehow, Guest had managed to get most of their things settled.
Now there was only one problem left.
Where were they supposed to sleep?
The dorm only had one bedroom, and Guest’s bed hadn’t arrived yet. There were technically other options. The floor was open enough. The chair was probably uncomfortable, but technically usable. They could probably make something work with a few blankets.
Zanka stared at the empty spaces around the room.
Then his eyes slowly drifted toward his bed.
It was, unfortunately, the nicest option by far.
He stood there for a moment, looking between the bed and Guest with an increasingly troubled expression.
“…Where are you going to sleep?”
He muttered it mostly to himself, rubbing the back of his neck.
The floor was an option.
It was just a terrible one.
His gaze returned to his bed.
“…This is going to be annoying.”
