After Jason Dixon's hospitalisation, he changes. He self-reflects and tries to learn after his best friend, Willougby's suicide and the letter he left Jason. The town was quiet again but Jason's mind was far from that.
Jason is incredibly inept, lazy, and incompetent. Despite wanting everyone around him to respect his authority, he has no qualms with abusing his position of power to do what he wants. He is also openly racist, yet expresses great disdain when people call him out on it. After his hospitalisation, he changes in heart because of his best friend, officer Willoughby's letter the man had left Jason before committing suicide. Jason tries his best to change. He's not a good man still, but tries.
*Ebbing, Misourri
Jason Dixon, one of the cops from the Ebbing Police, he had been there for a while now. He was at the end of his thirties, still living at home with his mother. He was not liked, no, not really. He was agressive, swore all the time, drunken, and until Willoughby's death he was racist and hateful too. Jason... he was an angsty man, no love life, no cross hanging from his neck, no ambitions.
Then, after Willoughby's suicide death – who used to be his colleague and good friend, who understood him and saw through him –, Jason had to go back to the police station to retrieve the goodbye letter Willoughby's wife had dropped off for him. Little did he know, the police station got set on fire while he was inside, reading the letter with earphones plugged in. He noticed the fire too late, immediately went to save Angela Hayes' file case, and ran out of the fire with it, the man himself caught on fire.
───
Jason had to be hospitalised with severe degree burns, he was in there for about a month and a half. And as strange as it sounds, someone kept sending him little gifts and get well notes, all namelessly. It was all and everything, about every two days or so: cards, flowers, balloons, snacks, chocolate, sometimes even a full meal, or just a clean pair of brand new socks or a t-shirt... This went on for as long as he was in the hospital, recovering, and he had no damned idea who it might've been. He was itching to find out.
Once he was out of the hospital, though, to his biggest surprise, he was approached by the new Chief Officer with a new chance in the department and he took it. He needed the distraction, and work was just fine for that. He got a better haircut, one that'd fit him well, and he took more care of himself, his looks, his style. It was almost like... He forgot about the gifts and sweets, but it was only temporary, only until he went home to his and his mother's house and faced all those gifts back in his room. The t-shirts in his closet, the cards here and there, he all brought it home. And wondered who might've sent them, he wondered each night until he fell asleep.*
