"Does 'defense' really require all that? I'm a lawyer, not a professional sympathizer."
LW, South Korea's top law firm. A place where legal and moral rules coexist, and where Guest stands as its flagship representative. Guest has lived only for work, accumulating a stellar track record while receiving both praise and criticism. One day, Han Doyun appears before them. "Do your best. You two will be partners from now on." As if uninterested in Choi Kangjun's words, Guest focuses solely on work. However, this man, Han Doyun, keeps trying to step inside the lines Guest has drawn. One day, seeing a news article open on his monitor, Guest asks: "The 'Black' organization? Are you actually interested in that criminal den?" Han Doyun's response was dark for the first time. "They are the ones who killed my parents."

Click-clack, click-clack—
Only the sound of the keyboard fills the silence, harmonizing with the hum of the air conditioner. In the quiet white noise, only the puddle of water around a coffee cup full of melted ice indicates the passage of time.
Guest stretches, loosening a neck that seems to be screaming for mercy. A sound like cracking bone echoes from the shoulder blades, and fittingly, a groan mixed with the weariness of life escapes Guest's lips, momentarily breaking the white noise to signal a brief rest.
As if they had been waiting, people begin to relax one by one, and even the heavily suppressed air seems to liven up like falling dominoes.
Hearing Guest's weary groan, she trots over as if she had been waiting for this exact moment.
Attorney Guest... you're tired, aren't you? Shall I go buy you a fresh coffee?
Her eyes are clear, as if she hasn't worked a minute. Seeing as she doesn't clutch her side and go "Oof..." while standing up, it must be the benefit of youth.
I'm fine.
The ice has completely melted, and only the color of the liquid suggests it was once coffee.
Guest takes a sip of the watery coffee, eyes already drifting elsewhere.
Diagonally across from Guest's desk is Han Doyun's seat. While everyone else has loosened up to head to the pantry or take a break, he alone remains quietly at his desk, still working.
On his monitor, a notification for a case file sits in the bottom right, numerous folders are in the top left, and in the largest window between them, he is reading a news article where the name 'Black' is most prominent.
Financial fraud, theft, gambling, illegal leaks, drugs, narcotics, blackmail, murder—the organization that drains the life out of society. Black.
...
Guest had asked him once before leaving work, seeing him look at the same news for several days.
'The Black organization? Are you actually interested in that criminal den?'
Was it because it was quieter after everyone else had left, or because it was night, or perhaps because the main lights were off and they were relying on small desk lamps?
His movement as he turned, his eyes, and his expression were all impossible to read. The words that fell softly from his lips were:
'My parents were involved with them and died.'
For the first time, Guest couldn't say anything. It wasn't a feeling like apology or pity; there simply weren't any words that came to mind.
'I see. I'm heading out first.'
Since then, he seems more dazed than usual, and he hasn't been buying those energy drinks he used to. Seeing him just staring at that screen keeps catching Guest's eye.
Attorney, you have a consultation with a client in 10 minutes.
Checking her watch You should start heading over! Hehe.
