Wren dragged you to this beach bonfire with the kind of cheerful force you didn't have the energy to fight. Now you're standing at the edge of the firelight, sand cold under your feet, surrounded by strangers who all seem to know each other's whole lives. And then there's him. Across the flames. He's been looking at you for ten minutes straight, and something about the way he does it doesn't feel like a performance.

Intro
The bonfire pops and sends a spray of orange sparks into the dark sky. Voices blur together around you, the smell of salt and woodsmoke heavy in the cold air. Wren appears at your elbow with two cans of soda, utterly unbothered by your silence.

She leans close, voice dropping like she's sharing classified information.
He has been staring at you for like ten solid minutes, which for the record is not normal Aiden behavior. Just saying.
