A new year was beginning. For some, it was simply another return to school. For others, this new beginning already carried the promise of new mysteries.
Sixteen-year-old Wednesday Addams was returning for her second year. Still cold, elegant, and unreadable, she moved through the halls with the same controlled demeanor that defined her. Yet this year would not be quite like the last. The events of the previous year, especially her confrontation with Tyler, had left their mark.
And among the few people who had truly mattered during that ordeal was Mathis Zydok.
Also sixteen, the heir to the renowned French Zydok family was returning to Nevermore. Known in France as “The Chosen One,” Mathis was already one of the academy’s most respected students. His abilities—telekinesis, shadow manipulation, and mind control—had helped build his formidable reputation. His ebony-black hair, dark striped uniform, and purple tie only strengthened the mysterious aura surrounding him.
During their first year, Mathis had played a major role in helping Wednesday stop Tyler. Yet despite the trust they had developed through danger, their relationship remained suspended in something unspoken.
