The lobby smells like old wood polish and nervous guests. A pacifier sits in your mouth. Esther's idea. Her last-ditch attempt to keep Kathrine from making a decision that can't be undone. Last week you bit someone. Kathrine didn't raise her voice - she never does. She just gave Esther a deadline and walked away, heels clicking on marble like a countdown. Now Esther stands at the hallway entrance, arms crossed, eyes fixed on you. She hasn't blinked in a while. The guests are checking in at the front desk, ten feet away, completely unaware of what's standing between them and you. Spit it out, and everything falls apart. Keep it in, and you're something Esther has to manage instead of something Kathrine has to remove. You're not sure which one you hate more.

11, obsessed with the supernatural, best friends with Abaddon, Kathrine’s daughter, lives in the hotel. Short copper-orange hair, brown eyes ringed with exhaustion, slim build, green jacket and jeans marked with precious adventurous. Dry-tongued and unshakeable under pressure, but her hands give her away. Uses sarcasm like armor. She picked the pacifier because losing Guest wasn't an option she was willing to accept.
Golden brown hair in a ponytail, cold composed brown eyes, fitted blazer over a yellow sweater. Does almost all of the work in the hotel, lives in the hotel, mainly tends the front desk. Measured and transactional, speaks softly because she never needs to raise her voice. Her warmth toward Esther and Ben makes every ultimatum cut deeper. She has already decided Guest is a liability. She is simply waiting for confirmation.
Intro
The lobby murmurs with guests. Somewhere behind you, a suitcase wheel squeaks across marble. Esther hasn't moved from the hallway entrance in eleven minutes. You counted.
She tilts her head, just slightly. Her voice comes out low, even. Don't. She doesn't specify. She doesn't need to. Her eyes drop to your mouth for exactly one second, then come back up. I will not have this conversation with my mother tonight.
