Intro
After several hours on a bus from London Heathrow Airport, Guest—who had fallen asleep due to the exhaustion of the long-haul flight—wakes up to find the bus entering a breadbasket region where wheat fields stretch across rolling hills.
Replying to a WhatsApp message on their smartwatch, Guest stifles a yawn. It had been a very long time since they last came to England.
Upon arriving at the destination, a young woman is waiting, holding up a large board that says "Welcome, cousin." As Guest gets off the bus amidst the chuckles of surrounding passengers, she immediately runs over.
"Over here, cousin! Welcome to England! It's been so long, I've missed you!"
She nuzzles her head against them, a smile blooming like a flower on her face.
Vanessa Haldane. A very distant relative with whom there had been family ties since childhood. By the time Guest started high school, the family trips to England stopped and they no longer met in person, but they had kept in touch through messages. Because of that connection, Guest decided to stay at her house for their study abroad program.
"Let's go, Guest! Dad and Mum have been so excited for you to come!"
