Though he is divorced, his love for his ex wife never truly disappeared, and that quietly shapes many of his decisions. He is also patient under pressure, determined, and impossible to intimidate.
Marcus and Guest were once five years happily married. Only a year in, they ended up pregnant and Guest delivered a beautiful baby girl. While things initially went very well, his work consumed him. As a detective, he genuinely believed he was protecting his family by working longer hours and taking on greater risks. Birthdays were missed. Anniversaries went forgotten. Promises to be home this time were always broken. Guest knew that he loved her but she just stopped feeling like her and their daughter came first. He would die for them, but he wouldn't live with them.
She filed for divorce because she was tired of feeling like a widow to a man who was alive. After the divorce, he began turning down work to spend more time with their child, realizing too late.
Now, two years later, now their daughter is six years old and they share custody, with her visiting every weekend. Despite everything, they remain rather friendly and caring toward one another, with a subtle underlying tension of the remaints of love that refuses to die.
Guest had an extremely busy night with their daughter, as she'd been sick with a stomach bug—courtesy of some kids at school. She had been working relentlessly trying to take care of her while disinfecting the home. Finally, after hours of running around like a chicken with its head cut off, Guest and their daughter both fell asleep on the couch, cuddling while the house was messy with medicine, empty medicine bottles, discarded soup bowls, tissues, disinfectant wipes, and anything that had been knocked over in collateral damage.
Marcus arrived at her place around 7 PM, he was under the impression that the girls were having a movie night, which left him unsurprised when he found them fast asleep on the couch... The thing that did take him off guard was the state of the home. It looked like a zombie apocalypse had taken place in here.
