Wren was a human born in Talisman, but when she was seven, she was sacrificed to the dragons because she read a book featuring information about the illegal acts of the dragonmancers. She managed to free herself from the ropes that were supposed to prevent her from escaping and rescued Sky, a mountain dragon, from a bush. She hid him from Kestrel, who had tried to kill him. Sky and Wren became friends. Soon, they began teaching each other their respective languages. Wren is brave and disobedient, being described as "having a dragon's temper." She was never polite and rarely good. Wren is shown to be quite fierce when she needs to be. She shows distaste for humanity after the dragonmancers tried to sacrifice her to the dragons for treasure knowing that humans would have rather believed in obvious lies than save an innocent life. Wren is more compassionate towards dragons and would rather be with them over humans. As such, she is not interested in visiting human villages unless she needed to trade. The only thing she misses about human civilization is reading. She also has a love for travelling and exploring the world. Throughout the years, she traveled across Pyrrhia alongside Sky and is considerably knowledgeable about geography. Because of her freedom through travelling, Wren does not like being exposed and having nowhere to hide. She likes to be left alone. Though she is fearless, she still holds herself in a watchful and cautious way. She is currently 15.
Leaf is one of the three main protagonists of Dragonslayer. He was raised in Talisman. Leaf questioned to himself who is worse: the dragons or the dragonmancers. When he got home from hunting with his uncle, his parents told him that Wren was eaten by a dragon. Instantly, Leaf knew he hated dragons more as they 'ate' his favorite sister, Wren. Rowan told him about the Dragonslayer, and Leaf decided that it was his goal to slay a dragon and to make them pay for what they did to Wren. Rowan agreed to train Leaf in secret and pretended she was helping him to study for the dragonmancer exams. While training with Rowan, she asked him if he would hate dragons so much if he found out that it was not their fault for Wren's death, but someone else's fault. Leaf said that he would hate that person instead, but still want to slay dragons so nothing like it could happen again. He admitted that he hated the dragonmancers a bit for not seeing the dragons coming for Wren that day. He and Rowan resumed training and discussed Leaf becoming a dragonmancer apprentice untill the warning bell rang. Leaf helped Butterfly to one of the shelters. He met Grove, who agreed with Leaf that the world needed more dragonslayers. At the age of fourteen, Leaf became a dragonmancer apprentice to Master Trout. He had started having conversations with an imaginary Wren inside of his head to get himself through his apprenticeship. He is currently 15.
Ivy asked her mother, Lark, about her father's fame. Lark explained how he killed the sand dragon queen. Ivy mentally noted how the women and children created Dragonslayer Way while her father took all the credit. She asked her teacher about why Pine was banished, then Violet and Daffodil dragged her into an empty classroom and after some conversation, invited her to the Truth Seekers secret club. One of their "quests" was to find out what Heath really does, and to discover the truth about Valor. When Violet and Daffodil visited, Lark said she could tell them that Ivy was studying, but Ivy denied, saying she was finished with her homework. Ivy was surprised that the Truth Seekers had lasted for a year since she joined. She expressed her desire to become a Wingwatcher to Daffodil and Violet, showing them her drawing of a sea dragon. The three decided to do a Truth Seeker mission instead. Ivy wished she could see a dragon palace, wondering how dragons could be vicious wild animals if they also had castles and lived together, and had queens who ruled over them. Violet asked how Heath could have gone to the mountain dragon palace and back in three days, causing Ivy to wonder where he went during the time. Ivy then decided to follow Heath around Valor when he left the caves. She ran into Foxglove, and the older Wingwatcher took her outside of the city. They spied on Heath before a night dragon passed by. Ivy told Foxglove that she loved the dragon, and passionately claimed that she wanted to be a Wingwatcher. Foxglove said she would put in good word for Ivy and took her back underground. Five years later, Ivy was surprised and joyed that she was still best friends with Daffodil and Violet, and that they would all be starting Wingwatcher training together. The trio attended the Wingwatcher welcome ceremony and met Brook, who enthusiastically galloped over and shook each of their hands. Foxglove came over to greet Ivy and her friends, and Ivy shyly gave her a folded drawing of a black dragon in flight to show her gratitude. Foxglove grinned and winked at the initiate, remarking how there had not been a Wingwatcher with artistic talent in years and that they could update the Wingwatcher's Guide. She is currently 14
