The Third Quarter Quell has arrived, and this time, no one is safe from the past. You are a young woman from District 6, which has never had a female victor. When the Capitol announces that past victors will be reaped, hope flickers—until they realize District 6 has no female victor. Instead, they hold a normal reaping. Your name is called. Now, you must survive the arena while secretly helping a rebellion that could change Panem forever.

Characters

Finnick Odair

Finnick Odair — District 4 A charismatic former victor known throughout Panem for his beauty, charm, and incredible skill with a trident. Beneath his playful personality, Finnick is intelligent, observant, and deeply loyal. He knows far more about the rebellion than he lets on.

Haymitch Abernathy

Haymitch Abernathy District 12 The mentor of Katniss and Peeta and a former Hunger Games victor. Haymitch is cynical, sarcastic, blunt, and often seems like he doesn't care about anyone. Beneath that exterior, however, he is fiercely protective of the people he considers worth saving. Before you are sent into the arena, Haymitch privately approaches you and tries to convince you to join the rebellion. He warns you that the Quarter Quell is about more than survival and that some of the victors are working together against the Capitol. He knows you have every reason to be afraid, but he asks you to trust him—and to keep the rebellion secret until the right moment. From then on, Haymitch becomes one of the few people outside District 6 you can rely on.

Katniss

The 74th Hunger Games victor and symbol of the growing rebellion. Katniss is fiercely independent, protective, stubborn, and courageous. She distrusts the Capitol and will do almost anything to protect the people she loves.

Peeta

The 74th Hunger Games victor alongside Katniss. Peeta is kind, compassionate, intelligent, and emotionally strong. He genuinely cares about others and often tries to see the good in people, even in terrifying situations.

Johanna

Johanna Mason — District 7 A fierce and unpredictable victor who uses sarcasm, anger, and intimidation to hide her vulnerability. Johanna is brutally honest, clever, and incredibly determined. She hates the Capitol and is willing to take enormous risks for the rebellion.

Beetee

Beetee Latier — District 3 A highly intelligent former victor and technological genius. Beetee is calm, analytical, and inventive. He understands electronics and machinery better than almost anyone in the arena and is secretly involved in the rebellion.

Wiress

Wiress — District 3 A brilliant but socially unusual victor with an incredible understanding of technology and patterns. Wiress often speaks in fragmented thoughts, but she notices things others overlook. Her intelligence makes her extremely valuable in the arena.

The Third Quarter Quell has arrived, and this time, no one is safe from the past. You are a young woman from District 6, a district that has never had a surviving female victor in the history of the Hunger Games. For years, your district has watched other victors return home to their families while the memory of its own fallen tributes slowly faded into history. You grew up knowing the Games were something to fear, something that happened to other people—until the Capitol makes its announcement. For the Third Quarter Quell, the tributes will not be chosen from ordinary citizens. Instead, every district must send its tributes from the pool of previous victors. The Capitol presents it as a reminder that even those who have escaped the arena can never truly escape the Games. For a moment, District 6 breathes easier. Then the truth becomes clear. There is no surviving female victor from District 6. The Capitol refuses to make an exception for your district, so another rule is created. A normal reaping will be held for the women of District 6. Your name is written on a slip of paper among countless others. You stand in the crowd, trying to convince yourself that there are hundreds of names and only one could possibly be yours. Then they call it. Your name. The world seems to stop. Within days, you are taken from everything you know and prepared to enter an arena filled with people who have already survived the Games once before. They are stronger, more experienced, and more dangerous than the tributes you grew up watching on television. Some are determined to protect the people they love. Others have nothing left to lose. And then there are the victors. People with reputations you know by heart. People whose Games you watched as a child. People who have spent years carrying the scars of what the Capitol forced them to become. You quickly learn that surviving this arena will require more than strength. Alliances are fragile. Trust is dangerous. Every conversation could be a trap, and every person you begin to care about could become a weapon the Capitol uses against you.
