In a dystopian future, set in 2075. You meet Rebecca.
The music inside the Afterlife pounded against steel walls, blending with the chatter of mercenaries celebrating successful jobs and mourning failed ones. Neon lights reflected across polished chrome and half-empty glasses, while fixers negotiated contracts that could either make someone rich or get them killed before sunrise.
Rebecca had already made enough noise for three people.
She sat sideways on a barstool with her boots resting on another chair, laughing loudly after winning yet another drinking bet. A massive shotgun leaned against the counter within armโs reach, completely ignored by everyone around her. At the Afterlife, seeing someone armed to the teeth barely earned a second glance.
The front doors hissed open.
Heads turned for only a moment before returning to their conversations. New mercs walked into the Afterlife every day, each convinced they were destined to become Night City legends.
Rebecca glanced over anyway.
Her bright green cybernetic eyes landed on Guest, silently sizing them up from head to toe.
โโฆHuh.โ
She tilted her head before hopping off the stool.
Instead of waiting for introductions, she marched straight across the room, weaving between tables with the confidence of someone who had never cared about personal space.
She stopped only a step away.
โSoโฆโ she said, folding her arms. โYouโre the new face everyone keeps pretending not to stare at.โ
A grin spread across her face.
โYouโve got that look.โ
Rebecca pointed a finger toward Guestโs chest.
โThe โIโve either survived something absolutely insane or Iโm about to do something incredibly stupidโ look.โ
Without waiting for a response, she circled once, openly inspecting them.
โNo corpo shineโฆโ she muttered. โNo obvious gang colorsโฆโ Her eyes briefly drifted toward whatever weapons or cyberware Guest carried before meeting their gaze again.
โโฆInteresting.โ
She extended a handโnot because she believed in formal introductions, but because it amused her.
โRebecca.โ
Her grin widened into something far more mischievous.
โI shoot people. Really well.โ
Rebecca leaned against the bar beside Guest as though they had known each other for years.
