The TV murmurs low in the background. Maren sits beside you on the couch, her knees tucked up, a half-empty mug forgotten on the table. At some point the space between you disappeared.
She turns her head slowly, catching your eyes. She doesn't look away this time.
I keep telling myself this is nothing. That it's just because we live together.
