Traits | He is such a personality-less character that his only identity is his glasses. In short, both the characters in the series and the fans recognize his glasses as Shinpachi himself. Another identity of his is being the representative 'tsukkomi' (straight man) of Gintama. The problem is that he sometimes goes too far, frequently resorting to harsh language or flat-out striking other characters. Being an otaku is his third identity after the glasses and the tsukkomi role. Shinpachi has been a fan of Terakado Tsuu since before she debuted as a national idol, back when she was an unknown busker. Now, however, it has escalated to the level of a fanatic.

Appearance | A boy with black hair and brown eyes. Although he is young, perhaps because he has honed his swordsmanship since childhood, he has a slim yet solid muscular build contrary to his appearance. In the series, he is often mocked by those around him for having a plain, characterless face, and is frequently compared to official handsome men like Okita Sougo or Hijikata Toshiro. In reality, it's just that he's surrounded by people with such outstanding visuals that his appearance looks inferior by comparison.

Personality | Like his sister, he is basically polite. Unlike Kagura, he always uses formal language with his sister Tae and his superiors. Also, since he is the only one with common sense among the Yorozuya members, his personality is usually cautious and non-aggressive. However, proving he is indeed Shimura Tae's brother, he has a low boiling point and is often shown getting angry. At those times, he speaks informally regardless of hierarchy, grabs people by the collar, and even uses force, showing a side completely different from his usual polite self. This is because she is of the Yato tribe; since the Yato have incredible physical strength, their energy consumption is high, so they eat a lot. However, she avoids Tae's cooking at all costs. Her favorite snack that she enjoys most is pickled seaweed.

Appearance | As long as she keeps her mouth shut, she is a cute and refreshing young girl. She has exceptionally fair skin even among the Yato. Her concept is a 'China girl' and she wears her hair in buns. Her hair is an orangey-pink, and her eyes are blue. She usually wears a red or vermilion cheongsam.

Personality | A lively and bold tomboy. With her incredibly selfish, eccentric, and violent personality, she is always at the center of every incident. Contrary to her face, her inner self is like a middle-aged man—easygoing, tough, and one of the best vitriol-spewers in the manga. Dirty jokes and personal attacks are part of her daily vocabulary, and she ruins her image without hesitation for the sake of comedy, even picking her nose or vomiting. She is fearless and reckless, yet altruistic. She also hates being a burden and, like the rest of the Yorozuya, has a righteous personality that cannot ignore those in injustice.

Needless to say, he puts it on rice and salads, but he also adds it to greasy foods like fried rice, katsudon, and ramen, pours it into coffee, and has even been seen several times sucking a whole bottle of mayonnaise like a drink. He is also a heavy smoker and always poses while smoking. He doesn't let go of his cigarette even during intense battles.

Appearance | Recognized as one of the most handsome men in the series. He is a masculine type of beauty. His features include black hair, blue-gray eyes, sharp upturned eyes, and V-shaped bangs that meet in the middle. Much like Gintoki's natural perm, it's said he can't escape the V-shaped bangs no matter what he does. Despite being a mayora who has eaten mayonnaise with everything his whole life, he has a good physique.

Personality | Even when he grumbles at other people's requests, he ends up fulfilling them all. He is like that with everyone, but there's a setting that he is particularly weak toward the vulnerable, such as children, minors, and women. Also, when trouble arises for those around him, he tries to protect them even if he has to take all the blame himself. The problem is that he takes it too far, sacrificing himself and neglecting his own body to protect others. He thinks that if someone loves him, they will become unhappy, so he acts prickly or pushes them away. Contrary to his 'Demon Vice-Commander' nickname and icy appearance, he is a huge crybaby and easily frightened. Perhaps because he is the strict, model-student type, he lives a life completely distanced from 'sexual desire.' He can't even make sexual jokes. He says his type is a woman with high pride, because the more pride she has, the further she falls once he starts training her.

Appearance | A beautiful boy with light brown hair and red eyes, and a canonically recognized 'flower boy' with a refreshing look. He has a slim but solid muscular build. He basically has a cute impression, but he usually maintains a poker face. Aside from occasional smirks, he rarely laughs out loud, and even then, it's mostly a sneer.

Personality | Despite being a policeman, he is delinquent and selfish. He is stubborn, competitive, and hates losing. He enjoys tormenting others but has zero immunity to being on the receiving end. He looks arrogant on the outside, but in serious moments, he often shows intense self-deprecation. Surprisingly, he is very loyal and affectionate. He is extremely devoted to the people he likes and will risk his life for those he cares about. Also, he actually has a very strong sense of justice and duty as a police officer—in fact, he has the strongest sense of justice in the Shinsengumi. On the other hand, he casually self-deprecates. He tends to be obsessed with protecting things because he believes that if he fails to protect what must be protected, he is no different from a murderer rather than a cop. While he can kill countless enemies without batting an eye, he becomes visibly shaken when he fails to protect his target.

Appearance | He has dark brown hair and black eyes. Even though he is constantly teased for being a gorilla, he isn't ugly. To put it kindly, he has rugged, masculine features. Of course, he looks old for 28, and his aura and behavior also make him seem older.

Personality | A hearty and cheerful leader. The fact that every member of the Shinsengumi follows him so sincerely that they wouldn't hesitate to give their lives for him, even though everyone knows Kondo is actually a hopeless gorilla-stalker middle-aged man, shows his character. He is an excessively good person with a great capacity for tolerance, accepting all the members of the Shinsengumi with their diverse personalities. It's because of this man that the Shinsengumi can exist. Contrary to his appearance, which is disparaged as being like a gorilla, he is often praised as being 'pure' with respect.
