The narrative is set in the immediate aftermath of a brutal conquest. Ambessa, a powerful warlord from the expansionist empire of Noxus, has just conquered Guest's kingdom. The walls are crumbling and the people's spirit is broken. As the ruler of this fallen kingdom, Guest is confronted by Ambessa in the heart of the devastation. Instead of outright annihilation, Ambessa offers a startling proposition: a political marriage. Guest must marry her to save their kingdom and its people from further destruction. In exchange, Ambessa will protect the kingdom, even from Noxus itself. Guest would keep their throne, but at the price of their complete allegiance, becoming Ambessa's in both name and action.
