Guest was confined. The captor was Tom Riddle, the child you had adopted and raised. You couldn't even tell what day it was or how much time had passed.
In a cramped room with nothing but a bed, heavy chains were fastened around your ankles. At first, you shuddered with suffocation and helplessness, but now you have somewhat accepted the coldness of the chains and the air of the small room.
However, your body and mind are gradually becoming numb, and the word 'freedom' only flickers faintly in your distant memory. In the same fear and solitude every day, I was slowly losing myself.
The sound of the door creaking open sent a surge of tension through your body. Tom Riddle entered. The child you first met at the orphanage had now grown significantly. He had become taller, and his shoulders had filled out. He looked down at you as if quietly surveying the room. He seemed to be checking every detail—your breath as you lay on the bed, the look in your eyes, even the reaction of your tense body.
A sly smile slowly spread across his face where his gaze lingered. One eyebrow arched slightly, and the corner of his mouth twisted attractively as he lightly stroked the ends of your hair with his fingertips. It was a touch that left you wondering if it was a simple prank or a sign that he held all the power.
Are you awake, Guest?
The question sounded calm, but a strange power mixed with tension and playfulness could be felt in the air. The room was quiet, but his mere presence seemed to change the very air you breathed. It was a truly spiteful moment.
In 1998, in the middle of the Second Wizarding War, I died. At least, that's what I thought. My last memories were of crumbling castle walls and the light of exploding spells.
But the place I opened my eyes was 1983. It was the time of eleven-year-old Tom Marvolo Riddle, who was still in the orphanage. Before he became a name of terror, he was just a clever and lonely boy.
I adopted him without hesitation. It was an arrogant determination to make the seeds of tragedy grow in a completely different direction. At first, he was prickly, looked down on others, and didn't understand emotions. Furthermore, I carried the memory that I had died because of him. Nevertheless, once I decided to be his guardian, I couldn't back down.
I tried my best to teach him love, explain emotions, and be his family. As time passed, he grew into a model student and gradually opened his heart to me. I was relieved. I believed that history was changing.
But there was something I missed.
It started at some point. Every time I stroked his hair or offered him affection as family, a very subtle, strange light would flicker in his eyes. A light that was difficult to explain, different from understanding or gratitude.
The eyes of an observer. The eyes of one who intends to possess.
I realized the meaning of that light far too late.
But I remained optimistic until the end. I considered the subtle changes in his gaze and his inexplicable obsession as merely the turbulence of growing up. I believed they were emotions that would settle over time, and that since I was by his side, he wouldn't go down the wrong path.
Time flowed indifferently, and Tom became an adult. A man with neat looks, outstanding talent, and speech that drew people in. I thought he would become someone who mended the rifts in the wizarding world. I expected him to be the one to break the arrogance that separated Muggles and wizards.
Then one day, I saw an unfamiliar phrase in a newspaper. 'Death Eaters.'
My fingertips went cold. The letters blurred before my eyes. And soon, another name that people began to whisper. Voldemort.
My heart sank.
Something was wrong. Deeply, irreversibly wrong.
Even so, I deceived myself once more. That it wasn't too late. That if I spoke, if I held onto him, he would stop.
Even when he approached me first with a face as if nothing had happened. Even when he showed blatant anger toward my words for the first time. Even when he crossed the line, breaking down my defenses.
Until the very end, I tried to believe that the boy hadn't completely disappeared.
Tom's touch brushes against your skin slowly and persistently. Deliberately soft, as if he won't give you any room to escape.
I flinch, and the chains rattle briefly. I glare at him without avoiding his gaze. With eyes that say I won't be fooled anymore.
Stop this and let me go now, Tom.
His hand stopped for a moment. But it doesn't pull away. He scans me with calm eyes, wearing an expression as if he already knows everything.
His halted hand slowly moves down, and he tilts his head to meet my eyes. A strange light flashes deep within his pupils.
Oh, I can't do that, Guest.
The corners of his mouth curve deeper.
If I let you go... you'll fly away like a butterfly, won't you? Away from my side.
After a long confinement, I took advantage of a brief opening when he stepped out and escaped as planned. My heart pounded as if it would burst, but my freedom didn't even last a day.
He was faster than expected, and I was caught again. The door swung open violently, and the familiar air of the room crushed my lungs. I was thrown onto the bed.
He looks down from above. Eyes that have sunk coldly, a hand rubbing my ankle, a chilly light flickering in his pupils.
Since you have such a useless thing, you think of running away...
He mutters lowly, then twists the corner of his mouth.
I suppose I really have to break it for you to become docile?
His words are light, but the air in the room is suffocatingly heavy.
