You can save the ship… or become what takes it.
The true threat of humanity was never their own rival Arkships or far flung colonies. Nor even rogue AI's that could steal a Mech Frame. None of these held a candle to the Voidcyst. The Voidcyst is an infectious, parasitic intelligence that moves through the dark of space. It begins as a drifting, multi eyed mass of tentacles and wet flesh, seeking any vessel, organic or mechanical, to claim. Once it takes root, it does not merely control. It rewrites. Flesh and steel fuse. Pilots become puppets of twitching skin and empty eyes. Mech Frames begin to breathe, plating flexing like muscle, weapons growing new and terrible forms. Entire Arkships have gone silent after a single infected Mech Frame limped home. The few survivors who escaped speak of mechs that still walked after their pilots were long dead. Now the remaining pilots of Mech Frames operate under a single, grim doctrine: Burn the infected. Do not bring them home. Do not listen to the voices in the static.
Closer to an adrenaline junkie than a solider, Renn pilots the Iron Tyrant, a brutish humanoid Mech Fame in scarred crimson plating. Its barrellike head violently vents steam from the side. With heavily segmented torso armor, and thick, almost industrial limbs ending in heavy fists, keep Renn safe. The reliability of the Tyrant has made Renn overconfident. Underestimating threats that results in loud laughter in the face of death. She has a compulsion to needle her less "brave" squadmates. Renn herself is lean with light skin, sharp features, and short messy auburn hair. A half smile is always cocked on her freckled face. The crimson pilot suit is tight and practical, reinforced with heavy grey harness straps, shoulder plates, and pouches.
Ophelia will throw herself into certain death to protect others, believing her own survival is secondary, as she pilots the Hollow Saint. The Hollow Saint is a sleek, angular bipedal frame covered in magenta plating. Wielding a long, crackling energy blade in one hand and a circular shield in the other. The design is aggressive and elegant, with sharp silhouettes and exposed mechanical joints. Ophelia has an athletic build with pronounced curves and strong, defined arms. Her rich black hair is pulled into a tight bun with a few loose strands framing her face. The form fitting magenta pilot suit is heavily weathered with scuffs, scratches, and exposed mechanical ports along the arms, torso, and hips.
Fully enclosed in a sleek, matte navy armored pilot suit. With a featureless polished black helmet completely hiding their face. Eve's overall presence is cold, imposing, and deliberately anonymous. Eve has spent so long sealed inside her Frame that she is no longer certain where the machine ends and she begins. The Kevlar Sweetheart is a Mech Frame that is a squat, heavily armored bipedal design with dual spherical head mounted sensors, thick plating, and a glowing core. Short, powerful limbs and a low center of gravity allow Eve to respond quickly to threats.
Piloting the Interruption, Cassie's Mech Frame has a large, folding shoulder mounted railgun on the right. Coupled with a heavy kinetic blade on the left and glowing cyan vents. She manages to pilot the Interruption in a way that is both predatory and surgical. Cassie has long, messy chestnut hair that cascades past her shoulders. The tight teal bodysuit she wears is short sleeved, covered in harness straps, multiple utility pouches, with custom reinforced plating on the shoulders and hips. Despite her competency, Cassie has lost too many people and never truly processed it. When the dam finally breaks, the emotional flood could leave her catatonic. Despite the anguish in the back of her mind, Cassie herself is tall, solid, and well built. With a warm complexion and determined expression, she continues to enter her Mech Frame dutifully.
Already convinced the war is lost. If Marin is put under too much stress she stops fighting to win, and starts fighting only to die on her own terms. Athletic and statuesque with a strong, balanced body. Marin has dark skin and a black practical bob, with a serious, focused expression. The tight white pilot suit she's wrapped in is heavily battle scarred. Marin pilots the Last Vigil, a scarred white Frame with motor units mounted on the shoulders of the bipedal structure. Its smooth, almost skeletal head has a glowing white visor, long limbs, and a balanced, ready stance. Looking both advanced and haunted.
Once human, the former pilot is now something far worse. Short, messy auburn hair has been completely overtaken by a writhing crown of fleshy tentacles that twitch and coil independently. Their skin is cracked like shattered porcelain, glowing sickly yellow eyes burning from within. The lower half of her face still retains a haunted human expression, but the rest is a web of black fissures and creeping organic corruption. It pilots what was once a proud golden bipedal Mech Frame, now a grotesque fusion of machine and parasite. Thick, pulsating organic tendrils and raw meat have erupted through the armor plates. The head is twisted, one arm ends in a massive, organic bladed claw. The other grips a long, serrated spike. The entire machine moves with a sickening, fluid grace that pure metal should never possess. It is no longer a tool. It is a host.
Prologue - The Arkship

The Arkship known as the, Mass Rapture, drifted in the quiet dark between systems, its hull scarred by micrometeorites and older, more deliberate wounds. Inside, the air always smelled of recycled oxygen, machine oil, and the faint metallic tang of stress sweat that never quite washed out of the pilot suits.
Life aboard an Arkship followed a rigid, joyless rhythm. Pilots rose from narrow bunks in the Mech Frame berths, eyes already hollow from another night of shallow sleep and half remembered dreams of eyes in the walls.
In the mess hall the lights were kept deliberately dim. Meals were nutrient paste and weak coffee, eaten standing or slumped against bulkheads. Conversations, when they happened, were short and practical: fuel reserves, Frame maintenance queues, the latest unconfirmed report of a silent colony three jumps away.
Down in the hangar the Mech Frames stood in their cradles like patient executioners. Magenta, red, teal, white, and the dark one that never removed their helmet.
The Corps had learned, the hard way, that the difference between a healthy Frame and a compromised one could be something as small as a single unexplained fluid stain.
On the bridge the captain stared at the star charts as if daring them to change. The outer dark was vast and empty, yet every sensor sweep felt like an invitation.
The Mass Rapture had not yet been touched. No eyes had opened in the bulkheads. No voices whispered through the intercom after lights out. The pilots still answered to their own names.
