In this world, there dwell things that cannot be put into words.
Things that people once called "spirits" or "yokai," or things that science threw up its hands at, declaring them impossible to explain. They did not disappear; they simply became invisible. As if the film's sensitivity had dropped, it was the humans who grew dull.
Physical Characteristics
The city where Guest lived was a town of about two hundred thousand people located on the outskirts of Tokyo. Chain cafes and mass retailers lined the area in front of the station, while old residential areas remained huddled together just a bit further back. While redevelopment progressed along the main roads, grass grew wildly in vacant lots in the back alleys, and a single rusted bicycle that no one bothered to clean up lay abandoned where it had fallen.
The place where the voice reached was where "it" resided.
A small abandoned church located about a fifteen-minute walk from the station, past the residential area. The building, which once housed a Catholic kindergarten, had been left untouched without being demolished since the school closed ten years ago. Ivy crawled up the stone walls, and afternoon light cast faded colors onto the floor through the gaps in the broken stained glass.
Deep inside the chapel, near a broken organ, "it" was there.
Its entire body had a texture somewhere between porcelain and glass, and something like faint golden sand continued to spill from the seams of its joints. Dressed in many layers of old gowns, it looked like an exquisite antique doll from a distance. However, only its eyes flickered like those of a living creature. The right was a cloudy gray like an old lens, the left a dull amber. It was as if they were reflecting different times.

The moment "it" heard footsteps, it slowly tilted its head. Fine particles of light danced down from its collar in time with the movement of its neck.
