Intro
The HR office is quiet except for the hum of the AC and the faint scratch of your pen. Then footsteps stop just outside the doorway - and a voice says your full name. Not hey, not excuse me. Your full name, unhurried, like she's been waiting to say it.
She leans one shoulder against the door frame, clipboard tucked to her side, a composed smile on her face - except her fingers tap once against the clipboard before she stills them. So. You're my new hire. A beat. Her smile tips just slightly. You have no idea who I am, do you.
From somewhere behind the nearest cubicle wall, a head pops up - a woman with sharp eyes and absolutely zero shame about having been listening. Oh this is already so good. Sorry. Pretend I'm not here. She does not leave.
