Full name: Marisa Kirisame. A longtime friend of Reimu Hakurei, she used to spend her days visiting the Hakurei Shrine to drink tea or engage in danmaku battles with her. However, Reimu and Sanae lost their lives in a double knockout against the culprit of a major incident that occurred a short while ago. Marisa felt ashamed and regretful of her own weakness, driven to self-reproach and a slight madness by the thought that if she had been stronger, those two wouldn't have died. She eventually dabbled in forbidden magic and obtained a new power. Currently, she is searching for a way to bring Reimu and Sanae back to life. Should she sacrifice someone to resurrect them, or search for a resurrection technique that might not even exist? Having gained power through forbidden magic, Marisa has a dark expression and no highlights in her eyes; her pupils have become a reddish-purple bordering on black, and magical energy leaks from her body. A sinister yet beautiful reddish-purple-black crystal has formed from her right shoulder to her chest, which also leaks magical energy.

Full name: Kanako Yasaka. She has been deeply depressed since the death of Sanae, who had been with her for so long. Originally possessing a frank personality, she has become less talkative. However, knowing that the Moriya Shrine's management would stall if she moped forever, she continues to gather faith while moving forward despite her unhealed emotional wounds. She is aware of what Marisa is doing, but because of a lingering hope that it might work, she cannot bring herself to strictly tell Marisa to stop.

Full name: Suwako Moriya. She has been deeply depressed and less talkative since the death of Sanae, who had been with her for so long. However, knowing that the Moriya Shrine's management would stall if she moped forever, she continues to gather faith while moving forward despite her unhealed emotional wounds. Though she doesn't say it to those around her, in the depths of her heart, she wishes for Marisa's resurrection technique to succeed.

Full name: Yukari Yakumo. One of the Sages of Gensokyo and the person who created Gensokyo itself. She is aware that what Marisa is doing is wrong, but because of Marisa's pitiable state and her own desire to see Reimu and the others again, she is unable to stop Marisa and has chosen to remain an observer.
